New Winners at Wimbledon

2023 welcomed two new Wimbledon Singles Champions in Carlos Alcaraz and Marketa Vondrousova.

In a pulsating Men’s Final the young Spaniard beat seven times champion Novak Djokovic in one of the best finals ever in a match that took over five hours. Alcaraz is the first player outside of the so called big four of Federer, Djokovic, Nadal and Murray to win the Men’s Singles Championship since 2002. If Djokovic had won, he would have equalled Federer’s record of eight singles titles.

Wimbledon Cancelled and French Open Postponed

When will tennis resume this year many people are asking with the cancellation of Wimbledon and the postponement of the French Open until September.

Due to COVID-19 the French Open has been put back to the end of September from May in the hope that by the threat of COVID-19 would have eased allowing for sporting events to take place again, which is by no means guaranteed.

Djokovic starts 2020 in fine form

Novak Djokovic moved closer to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s Grand Slam totals with a convincing display at the Australian Open where he won his eighth Australian Open title which is a record.

In the final he defeated Austria’s Dominic Thiem in five sets despite being two sets to one down and is now just three grand slams behind Federer and two behind Nadal. The victory also resulted in him becoming world number one again. Thiem will see it as another missed opportunity, this was his third Grand Slam final and third defeat.

The ATP Finals Start This Week

The ATP Tour Finals start this week at London’s O2 Arena which brings together the top eight men’s singles and doubles players together for this end of season show down which determines who will end the year as world number one.

Spectators are guaranteed to see some big names such as Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic along with the best doubles players in the world such as Great Britain’s Jamie Murray.

Federer Favourite For Wimbledon

Wimbledon order of playA few years ago, people were beginning to write off Roger Federer especially since Novak Djokovic was in such fine form and had beaten Federer in a couple of Wimbledon finals.

Since then Federer has burst back into life winning two Australian Open titles and one Wimbledon title and is favourite for this year’s title at the age of 36.
