Nadal Breaks Grand Slam Record

History was made at the Australian Open in when Spain’s Rafael Nadal won his 21st Grand Slam which puts him one ahead of his great rival’s Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

In a pulsating final he stormed back from two sets to love down to defeat Russia’s Daniil Medvedev three sets to two.

After losing the first two sets and having barely played over the last six months the odds of winning would firmly have been in Medvedev’s favour but the thirty-five-year-old showed all his experience and fighting spirit to win the next three sets.

Few would bet against him winning his twenty second Grand Slam when he plays the French Open next month where he has won a record breaking thirteen titles.

His two great rival’s Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were not playing. Federer is undergoing rehabilitation from knee surgery whilst Djokovic could not play as he is unvaccinated which could well put him out the French Open too.

Britain’s Andy Murray had a hard fought first round win and hoped to follow this up but was off par in the second round where he lost to Taro Daniel in straight sets.

In the ladies tournament Australia’s Ashleigh Barty won her third Grand Slam defeating Danielle Collins. It was a remarkable tournament for her in the fact that she did not drop a set all tournament. She was five one down in the second set but came back to win the set.

The next Grand Slam is the French Open in Paris in May. After that the grass season starts and we have Wimbledon hospitality and 2022 debenture tickets for each day of the tournament so do get in touch if you fancy coming along!
